News Roundup for September 13, 2008

Keep in mind I'm only one person, and there's also family, school, and work to pay the bills. I'll try to keep these News Roundups going on a weekly basis, posting Saturdays with some news Christians need to know from the week.

If you want to send me a link, that would be swell!

Christian Apostasy
Sadly, more Christians are moving away from the Bible and historic orthodoxy as the basis of their faith, and moving toward a self-focused brand of experientialism. These stories demonstrate examples of this trend.
  • Confession: fewer know their Bible
IT MIGHT be the greatest story ever told, but Bible literacy is slipping and not just among atheists. Devout churchgoers, especially Catholics, are losing touch with the scriptures of their faith, research shows.
  • Episcopal bishops join effort against Prop. 8
The Episcopal Church in California is taking up arms against Proposition 8, an amendment that would change the California constitution to preserve the integrity of marriage as being between one man and one woman.
Christian Ministry
…however, there always remains a remnant committed to God and His Word. These stories highlight exciting ministries you may not know about, but for which you can pray and praised God.
The sometimes strange, sometimes infuriating, and sometimes encouraging world of government-run education.
Election News, 2008
November is not far away…
  • Congressman likens Palin to Christ's crucifier
Obama is a community organizer like Jesus? What exactly does the good congressman believe Jesus was doing in first-century Israel – building a political career? Let’s not forget that Christ is the Savior, the promised Messiah that will deliver Israel and bring both Jew and Gentile into His kingdom. Or, perhaps, the congressman believes that; and the issue is that he has too high a view of Senator Obama.
    • And the personal attacks against Palin do not seem to cease. One magazine is paying the price, however. “Us Weekly… is said to have lost thousands of subscribers in just the first 24 hours following the printing of the issue.”
  • Will Joe Biden be dumped off ticket?
A possible switch to Hillary would definitely regain some lost ground for democrats.
  • Prop 4: Stopping underage abortion in California
Prop. 4 is called ‘Sarah's Law.’ Sarah was 15 years old when she died four days after an abortion. Doctors said if the parents had known, the death may not have occurred
Evolution News
The curious notion many would have us accept unquestioningly.
"hmmm... now that's good satire!"

Morality Definition Out of Control
Textbook examples of calling good evil and evil good.
  • Return of 'hate crimes' plan looms in Congress
Make no mistake – these are “crimes” against a person because of bias against that individual’s associations. In other words, a pastor speaking against homosexuality could be charged with a crime in certain scenarios. Not a good thing – some are attempting to protect and applaud the self-destructive lifestyle of sodomy while decrying those who try to help those people.
  • Judges endorse coed restrooms
''Opponents of the law say they are reviewing their options for continuing their challenge to the extraordinary law that essentially leaves private homes and private clubs as the only locations where a person would not have the "right" to use the restroom or shower room designated for whatever gender that person feels on that given day.''
  • Canadian Doctors Group Worried Palin Example Will Lower Downs' Abortion Rate
This link provides both the story and excellent commentary.
Please remember to pray for our persecuted brothers and sisters.
The Religion of Peace
Stories noting the violence of Islamists that does not directly involve Christian persecution.
Just some other science stuff that is really cool, or really sad … in other words, a Trekkie relates.
Please do not forget to pray or praise God, whichever is appropriate, over the news of the day. Also, please feel free to send me messages at
marksbury-shaun(at) during the week of stories that belong on the News Roundup.
