A quick thought on arguing your point

It's okay to stray from the beaten path. If you disagree with 99% of folks on a subject and wish to express your contrary belief online, go for it. You may, indeed, be smarter than the rest of us.

But, before you start typing your world-changing masterpiece, please consider these three hints.

First, use decent grammar. If you want to be taken seriously, don't write in sentences that are fraught with syntactical problems. You must avoid spelling errors. Write in complete sentences. Every error in grammar turns off your astute readers and confuses all your readers.

Second, utilize paragraphing. Some great thinkers achieve half-page paragraphs. Most people, however, have long paragraphs because they don't understand how to organize their thoughts into logical groups. In other words, uni-paragraph blog posts and comments usually proceed line after line with multiple subjects, confusing your poor reader who is struggling to determine your main point.

Third, use logic in yo…

What is Truth? (from Sunday, 9/28/08)

(For those just joining us, every we I post the notes from our Sunday School lessons with the youth group.Click “youth studies” to view past entries or to catch up with the current series.) We’ve been on these detours for a while. We talked about evolution forthreeweeks, and last time we talked about that ten-dollar word, postmodernism. This week, we are going to conclude our discussion on postmodernism by looking at the reality of truth.Let’s start by looking at a biblical example – the Garden of Eden.Satan tried to sin his way to independence by trying to outgrow his “creaturehood” by rebellion against God.Instead, he found himself corrupted, degraded, and deceived. He cut himself off from the love, light and life of God. Satan’s lie offered independence, but delivered death and bondage (Gen 3:1-19).In the garden, Satan’s self deception was, in essence, “passed on” to the human race.Eve assumed God’s mind, her mind, and Satan’s mind were all equal, not allowing God’s mind to be exalted…

Christian Apostasy
Sadly, more Christians are moving away from the Bible and historic orthodoxy as the basis of their faith, and moving toward a self-focused brand of experientialism. These stories demonstrate examples of this trend.
Bible-believing bishop thrown out by Episcopal leader
Not looking good for Episcopal believers.Episcopal bishops join effort against Prop. 8

Sorry that we believed the Bible, Chuck. The 'Green' Bible
This is under “apostasy” not because we shouldn’t care for the environment, but because folks want us to buy a Bible because of policy.  God’…

Of Linebackers

Someone was showing this last night in class, and it is definately interesting:

Share your faith... or else!
Of course, this is a copy-cat of the "Terry Tate, Office Linebacker" series (links are directly to .wmv files):

First Office Linebacker. This time Terry gets some competition from Courtney Cate, a draft pick. This time Terry is forced to go on vacation. After a rough start, he starts to enjoy himself at the resort.OSPN (The Office Sports Programming Network) does a segment on him, looking at where he came from to become the best office linebacker.Felcher & Sons suffers through sensitivity training from a new HR consultant.Sixth spot with Terry Tate office linebacker.Seventh spot with Terry Tate office linebacker.

Psychedelic Worship (YouThubology)

Here is the second of my Wednesday posts on YouThubology.

This week: "Sloshfest 08 Glory Dance Trance."  YouTube member Burning4Jesus says, "Supernatural miracles signs and wonders on the earth today. Jesus is still doing the stuff and we're showing the world what is going on. Crazy days," so I'm guessing he likes what happens in this video.

Are you ready for Jesus to run through your veins?

HT to A Little Leaven, who says:
Can you spot the 'golden calf' in this video? This is NOT Christian Worship. This is pagan. Notice that Ben Dunn, of Tokin the Ghost fame is leading this pagan revelry.I'm inclined to agree, but let me put this in other terms.

We know that the Bible says we shouldn't be like the world, but its good to ask where the line is at since we also have to live in the world.  For instance, we have to wear clothes, drive cars, use electricity, live in homes, listen to music, etc., meaning we look and act like the world in our si…

Post-modern-what-ism? (from Sunday, 9/21/08)

(For those just joining us, every we I post the notes from our Sunday School lessons with the youth group.Click “youth studies” to view past entries or to catch up with the current series.) As I mentioned last time, we are exiting the main road again onto another detour. Why does the world reject the Gospel? One of the reasons is a cultural trend you may not have heard of, or, at least, thought of much. Before we begin, let’s review a bit.We looked at these two verses:“And even if our gospel is veiled, it is veiled only to those who are perishing. In their case the god of this world has blinded the minds of the unbelievers, to keep them from seeing the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God.”– 2 Co 4:3-4“For God, who said, ‘Let light shine out of darkness,’ has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.”– 2 Co 4:6Neither Richard Dawkins, Sam Harris, Christopher Hitchens, nor the like are the enemies.…

Evolution Wrap-Up (from Sunday, 9/14/08)

(For those just joining us, every we I post the notes from our Sunday School lessons with the youth group.Click “youth studies” to view past entries or to catch up with the current series.) While this is a great opportunity to discuss a topic we don’t normally discuss in a Sunday School setting, the time has come for us to end this detour and get back on the main road.Besides, there is another scenic detour ahead we can take! Some Review
We started this series with the affirmation that science is a gift of God’s grace to all people, Christian, Jewish, Gentile, pagan… all people. It helps us live a little easier in a sin-cursed world, and helps us to know more about the genius of the Creator.“I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made.
Wonderful are your works;
my soul knows it very well.”– Psalm 139:14Yet, some have sought to turn this gift against God.We talked a bit about some of the history of this, mentioning that atheism and precursory Darwinistic evolutionary ideas predat…

"The God Delusion" Debate

Alright, I'm about to post my notes from the last two Sundays. For the sake of organization, I'll post them separately, so I apologize in advance for filling your inbox with "new blog" notifications.

As a prelude, you may want to check out and download this debate between Richard Dawkins and John Lennox.

Where in the world is...

I'm sorry I haven't been posting this week.  I came down sick over the weekend (and I'm still fighting it now), and this week has been a busy week.  You know, papers and reading for school.  I'll also be teaching SAT Prep Saturday, and I have to prepare for Sunday School.

I'm obviously behind here on the blog, so I'm going to have to push everything until next week.  I'll try to have my notes from last Sunday up before next Sunday, but that's about the best I can do :)

Thank you, and God bless!

Bible-Science Association Now Meeting at TMC

I write this like it is news, but in truth I don't know when the change of address occurred. But, it did, and that is what is important, right?

The BSA is meeting at The Master's College in Santa Clarita on September 20. (Here is a map with directions.)

Their plans for this meeting? Here you go:

Major discoveries have come from this expedition, the best-equipped and most successful outer planet mission to date. Dave, who works at JPL for the Cassini program, will share incredible pictures and findings from Saturn, its rings and moons. In particular, three of the moons show they cannot be billions of years old. Cassini flew extremely close to Enceladus on August 10 and captured thrilling high-resolution images of its …

Shakespeare, Bo Peep, Dr. Seuss, and biblical preaching

Phil Johnson made a post on the horrors of what is going on in churches, as well as a warning from Spurgeon. This is a prime example of what happens when the Gospel looses its centrality - the Word of God is neglected and moralism (silly moralism at that) results.

I hope nobody minds, but I am just going to do a copy/paste.

Your weekly dose of Spurgeon
posted by Phil Johnson

ThePyroManiacsdevote some space each weekend to highlights from The Spurgeon Archive. The following Spurgeon excerpt is from "Christ Lifted Up," a sermon delivered on Sunday morning, 5 July 1857, at the Music Hall, Royal Surrey Gardens, London.Foreword
by Phil Johnson

was impelled to post the following Spurgeon excerpt because of a sermon series currently getting a lot of publicity and kudos from the scions of the "relevant" approach to preaching:

The ad campaign alone was appalling enough. Then I heard portions of the actual sermons on Way of the Master Radio this week, and I have to say these are …
