As you know, last week was the 50th anniversary marking the assassination of President John F. Kennedy.  His death that day understandably overshadowed the end of another great man's life, C. S. Lewis. Here we are today, half a century removed from both.  Of the two men, as Al Mohler pointed out in his briefing , Lewis probably had the more lasting influence.  His literature, both fiction and non, continue to be monumental around the world as he moves readers to deeper reflections on faith and Scripture. To commemorate Lewis' death, Justin Brierley, host of Premeir Christian Radio's "Unbelievable?" program, reimagined The Screwtape Letters for today.  Peter Byrom provided voice to the elder tempter. Lewis is one of those names that you will hear if you stay in church long enough. It is also one of those names that Evangelicals, at times, put down as "liberal." He was not a theologian by trade, he was a philosopher. As such, there are certain things that appear in his books that even his staunchest defenders would shy away from. But I still like him. A lot. I came across one of his gems while writing a research paper, which in turn led me to run some quick internet searches. One of the results was from Desiring God, where John Piper explains why Lewis has meant so much to him. I found myself saying, "Yes, Yes!" the whole time - Piper articulates the joy that is Lewis like no one else. If you are a Christian who has heard bad things ( true bad things)about C. S. This book is one of my favorites in vividly illustrating 1) why we deserve Hell and 2) why people in Hell would still never choose to go to Heaven.  Say what you might about C. S. Lewis, and I know that there are a few well-grounded criticisms of the book, but this book is still a gold mine for illustrations and "ah-ha!" moments.  Now, what will a movie based on the book be like?  We'll find out.  Beloved Pictures has purchased the film rights, and The Great Divorce appears on their site as a coming film project.  Founded in 2007, I just don't know anything about them yet, so it's your best guess as to where they will take the film.
