Theology Lectures (2 of 4), TMS

The good folks at the Master's Seminary want to see the Christ's church as biblically-oriented and God-honoring as possible. As such, they have been placing their class lectures online for free.  This act of love provides wonderful opportunities for discipleship, training, and review. This post highlights the second of four theology classes offered by the seminary (the first is here ). Here are a few questions these videos will help you answer: Who was Jesus of Nazareth? (Christology, the largest section) What claims did He make? Why did He come to earth and die? What false beliefs and heresies about Christ have arisen over the years? What prophecy points to Him? Who is the Holy Spirit? (Pnuematology) Or, should the question be what is the Holy Spirit? What does the Holy Spirit do? What does it mean to be indwelt by the Spirit? How does the Holy Spirit work through the Charismatic-type churches? What are angels and demons? (Angelology) Who is Satan, for th...

Looking for good commentaries for your sermons?

Image
It's true: books from trusted sources weed through the commentaries for the very best, such as Commentaries For Biblical Expositors by Dr. Jim Rosscup . Even so, when we happen upon potential gold at the thrift store, is there an online resource we can check via smartphone? DTS grad John Dyer brings Dr. Rosscup, D. A. Carson, and many others together at www. BestCommentaries .com/ .  Navigation is easy, searchable by Bible books, commentary title, and author name.  Each commentary receives a score based on an algorithm that " serves as a guide to help students of the Scriptures know where to start ."  There are even books on theology and Christian living that will help any teacher of God's Word.  Give Best Commentaries a try. This, as well as other free Bible resources, may be found on the Bible Study Links page.

Want a Free Seminary Education?

Image
One of the worst blights besmirching American pulpits is the online degree.  With that in mind, biblically sound institutions indeed post free resources featuring theological heavy-weights who love the Lord.  Thus, many Christian leaders lacking the ability to attend a quality seminary scour the web for the good, hoping to gain the knowledge they need for daily ministry. Maybe that describes you, and perhaps you missed something really good.  No, it's not an e-ordination, but it will build your ability in and love for the Bible.  Seminary professor Nathan Busenitz announced the launch of this goldmine of online training that is indeed free: Earlier this month, The Master’s Seminary launched its Theological Resource Center (TRC) — an online hub for ministry-training resources. Because many pastors around the world will never be able to attend seminary in the United States, the TRC extends the resources of TMS and its partner ministries t...

25 Free Debates Featuring James White

TurretinFan posted the following to the glory of God .  I second his call for support to Alpha and Omega Ministries if you find these helpful and can do so. I was reluctant to post this list, because I'm concerned that people who might otherwise support Dr. White's ministry by buying copies of the debates will just watch them for free.  However, I trust that people who would support Dr. White's ministry by buying his debates will consider doing so in some other way, since his ministry is reliant on support of Christians who support what he's doing. Moreover, keep in mind that the debates below represent less than a quarter of the debates Dr. White has done.  ( see here for a list of debates you can get at store.aomin.org - that list may need to be updated at some point ) David Bernard vs. James White, "Are Tongues Necessary?" (informal radio debate on WMCA radio in New York , circa August 18, 2003) ( mp3 ) (Audio-only on Youtube part 1/5 )( part...

This GTY study introduces new believers to the key doctrines of Scripture, giving them hooks to cling to as they navigate their way through the Bible.  Older believers discover new truths every time they revisit it. The series is now available in both text and audio downloads, and teachers who find this to be a worthy study can purchase workbooks.  (HT: Veritas ) Buy Workbook Buy Teacher’s Guide 13 Lessons to Grow in the Grace and Knowledge of Jesus Christ Every Sunday morning at Grace Community Church (and throughout the week), small groups of people gather together around this manual for ‘Fundamentals of the Faith’ classes. Reaching Millennials

Image
The free book download this month over at Christian Audio is The Millennials . Here is the book description and video teaser: At more than 78 million strong, the Millennials—those born between 1980 and 2000—have surpassed the Boomers as the larger and more influential generation in America. Now, as its members begin to reach adulthood, where the traits of a generation really take shape, best-selling research author Thom Rainer (Simple Church) and his son Jess (a Millennial born in 1985) present the first major investigative work on Millennials from a Christian worldview perspective.   Sure to interest even the secularists who study this group, The Millennials is based on 1200 interviews with its namesakes that aim to better understand them personally, professionally, and spiritually. Chapters report intriguing how-and-why findings on family matters (they are closer-knit than previous generations), their desire for diversity (consider the wave of mixed race and ethnic adoptions...

SC: Updated Shepherds’ Conference Audio and Notes #shepconf

The 2011 stuff is not yet available, but I finally finished the updating of the 2010 stuff .  I also changed the intro to read the following: A lot has changed at the Shepherd's Conference site since this March 2009 posting, with the current result being improved usability.  For instance, new users no longer need to create a Shepherds' Fellowship account in order to download media.    If this trend continues, I believe this post is will become obsolete.  I'm okay with that...  really .  Yet, this still remains among the most popular posts on " Pisteuo ," possibly because the format may be more clear to some.  As such, I am cleaning up what remained of the 2010 info and will begin the process of posting 2011.  Of course, I had a bit of trouble when I first created this post in that I could not link to the audio files for 2001-09, though there are direct links to the notes. Since many messages are repeated and updated throughout the years, I h...

Mark’s Gospel, Performed by Max McLean: Free Online

Perhaps one of your New Year's Resolutions was to become familiar with the Gospels.  Even if it was not, you are sure to be blessed by this Justin Taylor discovery .  Max McLean's golden vocals resound from the stage with a word-for-word presentation of the Book of Mark.  Combined with clever  melodies, sound effects, and visuals helping you track the Messiah's progress through the ancient land, this dramatic reading of God's Word will bless those ears that were made for hearing. And did I mention it is free?   It's worth buying , if you have the funds and dislike watching things in-length on the computer. Running about an hour and a half in total, these YouTube videos are divided into single-chapter segments.  Of course, that will help you should you want to focus on individual texts.  However, if you have the time, also consider attempting the whole book in one sitting.  The book was written to be read aloud in its entirety, so thi...
